I have this incredible wanderlust this year. This break, I've been driving all around oregon, seeing old friends and exploring. Went to some ice caves, spelunked.
Guys, I want to go to Japan for spring break. And I don't want to go alone. Tokyo, to be specific, and for a few days, explore tokyo, specifically akihabara, shibuya, etc. Glorious Nippon.
Clearly this won't be cheap, and there is the risk that a japanese extremist muslim will blow us up on the way there and back. However, I REALLY REALLY WANT TO GO. I think one of my friends from Ringling would be down as well, a primo otaku buddy cooler than ice.
Yeah, so it's all in the extreme primary stages, but I don't really want to go alone. However, it would probably be one of those "experiences of a lifetime you regretted you passed up", and considering this is the group that fukken signed up to be all together on a floor in palladium for a year, I know some of you also want to go.
So, yeah. We'd brush up some wapanese so we wouldn't die, and it'd be a truly well-prepared amazing trip. However, I want to know who else wants to come....
also, akihabara for real for real real
So just post if you're interested, or even have an inkling. No promises, obviously, and no pressure. Just think about it.

Sounds like a great idea. I actually want to go around May since that's when a friend of mine is going. But sadly I'm not going. Cost is the main problem. It'd be way too expensive for me. Some other year.

yeah, that's what I was planning on. Hostels, cheap motels, etc. We'd obviously keep it to a student budget after the plane tickets. I have yet to tell my parents exactly where I'm going, but they were okay with me going somewhere spring break with buddies.

Hm, reminds me of my plans to go to Tokyo for High School Graduation. But there was a problem with money (I didn't have any). Now I have some money saved up for possibly a trip, but not sure if I would wanna go any time soon. I'm starting internships and possibly a new job this year. And I would want to go in September for TGS. Also I hear student hostels are an option.... That almost sounds as bad a dorming..... almost

Heh, I'm definitely up for going to Japan with you guys. Money won't be a problem for me, though I am a little scared of getting blown up by japanese extremist muslims. Still, its a risk worth taking XD.

@zack: You aren't invited Well now I'mma hijack your plane and crash it into Shibuya. Then you'll all die and be forced to play a game for seven days. Then you'll be erased by a Math obsessed shinigami furry. ... I might have confused reality with TWEWY Who's up for some Tin Pin?

Tempting, indeed it is.... VEWWY tempting. As always, money will always be the issue. I checked online on TRavelocity, Priceline, Expedia, Orbitz, Hotwire, Tripadvisor, and lowfares.com. They all stayed consistent that the cheapest flight from JFK, New York to NRT, Japan will cost $827 on American Airlines (LOL this is the same price I pay for the NYU bill each semester. LOL). I put in the dates to be from March 15 to the 20th. Of course, by using Delta, the cost will only be $775 if we leave on Sunday, March 14th and return on Sunday March 21st. Of course, this last possibility is includes "stops/connections to other planes" while the American Airlines ones go straight there. What are your thoughts Nora, Mike, Frank, and anyone else interested? Of course, I haven't checked for package bookings but I will soon.

If I go, I plan on using Delta, since I have a lot of miles on it. Also if I'm lucky I can get a discount even more, if I volunteer my seat. (If you volunteer your seat you get $400 bucks) What I'm worried about is spending money, and living expenses LOL!!
I'm fine with connections, if there is enough time between them you always have time to stretch legs and volunteer your seat (yes I am a fanatic lol)

Gotcha, although I am still a tad confused when it comes to volunteering your seat. Does that mean you purchase your ticket but give it to somene else, thus you get a discount of 400 bucks? If it is like that, then if this plan does get the green light (aka everyone CAN make it), we can give you the money and you can buy our seats, each time getting both a discount of $400 and more skymiles. Let's see what we can make of this.

Well it sort of works like that. What happens is sometimes Delta sells more seats than they actually have for a flight. (Don't ask me why)
So if you get there early, they might announce that they want volunteers. So you can go up there, and give your seat to someone else, and they'll put you on the next flight (and they set you up for any flights you may need to change due to missing connections by volunteering.. and if you're lucky you can volunteer for -those- fights). In return you get a $400 voucher each time. I WISH I could get everyone discounts, but unfortunately everyone needs to try to volunteer their seat themselves if they ever fly Delta...
But if we end up flying Delta to Japan, we should totally try to volunteer our seats as many times as possible so we can get more discount flights later on. XD

Sounds like a good plan. Speaking of which, although we did mention we should plan this trip out during spring break, we never did state what the dates will be. I simply chose the 15th and 20th out of sheer curiosity. Does anyone have a qualm with those dates or should we extend it to include say... the 13th (Saturday) and have it go to Sunday, March 22nd. This is just a random thought that came up. I'm just trying to get an idea, even if this is very early planning we are doing. hehe.
