I think that the 13-21st (Sunday) are great dates.
Also, Mike, I think you won't mind if I advertise this on Genshiken forums? I don't know if anyone checks them yet but I'm sure more exposure would be good. Hopefully I can keep both threads updated...

Yeah, go ahead. there's nothing wrong with it being a bigger group, as big groups tend to cost less via booking and stuff. I was indeed planning on making it as long as possible, like 13-14 to 21st, cause I get the feeling I'm going to love it.
I've checked flight details myself, your prices Luis seem to be very ballpark to what I found. 700-800 dollars for a round trip ticket, but the closer we get the more expensive the tickets will be. I'm thinking plans should be ready by mid-feb, but that's still a month away, plenty of time to send out feelers and stuff.
My friends watson and esther are maybes, so with Luis and Frank and Nora, we'd have six maybes. Remember, nothing's for sure, but this would be my ideal spring break, hands down.

I just invited this person to come with us:
Ani: Oh oh, I was thinking of visiting Japan for spring break this March 13-20 too! Are you traveling by yourself or with a group? I was going to meet up with a friend there but he has pretty much bailed. I'd be happy going alone, but maybe we can meet up sometime during our trips.
You should visit Tokyo/Kawamura/Yokohama of course, and Osaka (it's like NY and Boston respectively), Fukuoka if you have the time since it's way far south, Hiroshima to remember, Miyajima Island for the otorii, Kobe for a steak dinner (pricey but worth it), and Furano/Biei in Hokkaido for either fun in the snow or the lush lavender fields, and to enjoy the hot springs. March is a great time for sakura viewing/hanami but it will be crowded, and we'll be a week or two early for blooming season.
If you're serious about this, it will be about $2500. That's around $1k for airfare, $300 for a rail pass for 1 week, $500 for hotels (cheaper if you share) and the rest for meals and souvenirs.
I invited him to be our tour guide.

This is becoming more of a reality. YEEESSSHHHH!!!!!! I can definitely see this happening. So around mid-February we should start reserving our tickets.
Also, Nora, you gave us an approximation on our expenses and places to go. Counting Akihabara, we have about 8 places to visit more or less. My question for everyone is when should we ultimately decide our plans (as in which restaurants we will go to, what day we will go to "this place", etc). Based on my past encounters in travelling [aka with my parents about 10 years ago], we always tried to coordinate what we will do each day so we can make the best out of the whole trip. We should definitely get together and plan out something physically. Call a few hotels, get more facts, etc.

Okay it turns out the guy doesn't want to be our tour guide, but he did add: Hostels are definitely cheaper, but if you share rooms in a business or budget hotel it's a much better experience and not that expensive. However the Japanese charge by the occupant, not by the room, so even if you try to fit 4 people in a room, the savings won't be that good.
One of the things I enjoy about Japan are public baths/hot springs (usually full nude). Unfortunately there aren't many co-ed places so it wouldn't be as interesting going in a group.
You get from city to city mostly by train and around town by subway or trolleys/buses (in the large cities). Taxis are expensive but necessary in smaller towns. Renting pedal bikes is fun in smaller towns too.
I can see this turning into reality too!

Excellent. My city experience should be adequate for our survival over there. lol. I think we should start buying our Metrocards. It should work over there, right? LOL

Okay wow so I just read both pages of this and it got ME excited! Haha I originally planned on going to Tokyo with my friend next summer, but I would love to do this as well! Just so I can have a head start on him when we go But of course money would be the only issue. BUTTT since I have never been on a spring break trip before maybe my parents will feel sorry for me and help me out. (I never go on spring break trips because I don't like to waste money on like a beach or a cruise and I've specifically told my parents this, so maybe they'll understand I'm for real now) I haven't even met any of you and I'm like 2 days old to this forum/club but I would love to do this if I get the money and the OK from whoever is heading this??

YEESSHHH!! Another person who has joined our cause. This event can be the first of its kind (the NYU anime club has never done a trip such as this one... never). Anyone else who is pondering on joining us for this journey to our "promise land" (yes, I'm making a ff7 reference here), feel free to post your thoughts, questions, or anything that comes to mind.

Okay what is the ballpark cost of this trip? Did anyone figure out the complete number or at least around that? I saw 2,500 mentioned somewhere. Once I know an about cost then I can use my geass on my parents and be set to go!

I know right? My brother told me to come up with a budget and he'll help me out with the cost. But if I go ovebudget I'm screwed, and he'd be like "well I guess you have to sleep on the street lolz".

I can't be sure yet. I'm guessing this is a 2000ish, as plane tickets will run close to 800-900 and we can assume hotel/motel/hostel will be at least a few hundred for a week. Add in food and personal expenses, I'd give it anywhere from 2000 mid-low to 2500, but those numbers are ENTIRELY just speculation. I'm planning on spending some money while I'm there, too, so I'd have a different cost plan (we are spending time in akihabara, after all)

I also heard you talking about the hot springs! I want to do that soo bad! Man..I really want to do this now. Yeah I used a super toilet at Japan Society downtown. It had like... bidet water jet rhythms, and sounds. LOL. And the seat was heated. It was so awesome. And the jet streams of water shot directly into certain places (if you know what I mean) of your choosing (if you know what I mean) WTF lol!!! So if you ever want a massage... lollolol Xom: What... do they use... instead?? If I understand correctly, getting a Japanese rail pass allows us to travel all over japan with a one time cost? gojapan.about.com/od/traintravel/p/japanrailpass.htmwww.japanrailpass.net/eng/en006.html
