I'm gonna throw this out there right now so you guys have some time to think about it. The New York Anime Festival will be held at the Jacob Javits Center on September 25-27th. It's the closest(in both distance and time) convention in the area. Tickets for the nyaf are: $35 for Friday only $40 for Saturday only $35 for Sunday only $55 for all 3 days I'm sorry but I don't think the clubs budget can cover the ticket purchase so you'd have to buy the tickets yourself. You can buy tickets online or at Forbidden Planet on the corner of Broadway and 12th. I'll be going all 3 days. If you only wanna go for 1 day, then I suggest saturday since a lot of the events occur on saturday. Also note that on friday, the event opens later and on sunday the event closes earlier. If possible we'd like to go as a club so no one gets lost if your new to the city. Let us know now, or at the first meeting if you'd like to go. Go to their website for more information. www.newyorkanimefestival.com/If you've never been to a convention before, then I'll just tell you it's quite an experience. I can't guarantee it, but I think you'll have a great time. We'll bring this up again at our first meeting but I figured you'd need some time to think it over.

Good call Prez. I'll definitely be able to make it for Saturday and Sunday (I'll see what I can do about Friday since I just learned my Friday classes are OPTIONAL. HAHA). I'll update the website with this information as well.
As Jeffrey mentioned, if this is your first time heading to a convention, then feel free to join us as we head there as a group. We can even divide up as groups and search around for... well.. practically anything. Feel free to contact the E-Board about you going.

... ACTUALLY... I may change my mind about this - when were you guys going to leave to go? WHO NEEDS BOOKS >8U *Kicks Social Foundations*That's the spirit. Actually, I'm not buying books for one of my classes cause I spent all my money on anime products over the summer. It's not like I was going to read the books anyway, so it's no big deal. Anyway, I'm one of those people that likes to go early to line up. So first, here are the times that the con opens it's doors: Friday - 1pm Saturday - 10am Sunday - 10am Don't worry, I don't line up the night before or anything. But I would like to start going an hour to 2 hours before it opens. Chances are, someones going to be late so after all's said and done, we'll probably get there just on time. We can talk it over if the time doesn't work for you. So basically, the times will probably be about: Friday - 11am Saturday - 8 or 9am Sunday - 8 or 9am These times aren't set in stone and we're willing to accommodate anyone that needs to come at a different time. Extra Info:As for how we're going to get there, we'll most definitely be taking the subway so bring your metro cards. We'll meet at Forbidden Planet or near it(since they're doing construction there). From there, we'll take the L train at Union Square to 8th Avenue, and from there, transfer to the A,C, or E train uptown to 34th street. And from there it's just a short walk to the Javits center. Also, when we get there, everyone's probably going to run off on their own. If some of you'd like to stay together as a group, let us know or just form your own little groups. If you need anything, just look around for me or someone you know. When going home, just follow the directions to go there, but in reverse order. So it's get on 34th street to take the A,C, or E down to 14th street and from there change trains to L so you can get to Union Square. If you ever get lost or something, ask one of the MTA workers, they'll gladly give you directions if you tell them you want to get to union square. Anyway, don't worry about the directions since we'll be going together and it'll seem a lot easier when you actually see where we go.

Yeah I was afraid of going by myself, but I think now that I know that we have a) a group b) a later meeting time... This doesn't seem so daunting :3

Probably have to buy your own metrocard too. And damnit chad, use a thumbnail next time. But yes, that's a good example of what the ticket will look like. If you buy it online, you'll need to print that out and bring it with you. Or you can buy it at forbidden planet. If you get it at forbidden planet, it'll look different, like a pass. Don't worry about it, I'll explain when the time comes.

And, yeah, traveling as far uptown as the javits center when your new to the city can be pretty daunting. I mostly stay within the NYU area between Union square and washington square. And sometimes I go down to Chinatown. That's about all the traveling I ever do.

Yep I was at Otakon. xD If you hung around the Hetalia photoshoot I was there as the designated "photo taker" for my friends.
Yeah - it's one thing to go around on foot but the whole uptown-vs-downtown is not something I want to figure out on my own just yet.

So if you saw an asian shinsengumi cosplayer, it was probably me.
