What's up, Club Anime? Jon here, former club prez and NYU alum.
Me and my roommate had at table at NYAF, and so we had a chance to look around on Day 1.
The thing I most looked forward to was easily the screening of the new animation "Cencoroll" (pronounced Senko-roll)
Manga author Atsuya Uki has single-handedly written, designed and animated this 30-minute short, and got some help with the sound design, including music by Supercell.
The premise: a young schoolgirl meets a boy and his strange, shape-shifting pet, and gets dragged into an explosive pokemon battle.
Needless to say, I was impressed. This is the first time any company like Aniplex has backed an animation produced by a single man, and I have to say that the results are promising. I am hoping that this short, which started out as an even shorter demo clip, gets expanded into its own series, or perhaps into a movie! Definitely keep your eyes peeled for the DVD release in late October.

I really liked it. And I love it even more for having music by supercell. I was even considering showing it in club if I can get my hands on it. I think the animation was surprisingly good for one man to do. It was really smooth.

When I walked in to the Cencoroll screening I was very impressed - as our club president said - the animation was smooth, which struck me as I wasn't expecting that just by looking at the ad run in the freebie magazine NYAF gave out. :3 More props for it being a one man show especially - but I do have to ask, was Cenco meant to be a one shot only? :< I'dlovetoseemore
