Hey, anybody else get this yet? So far I love it. ;D
I've only played three of the new characters so far, but I've liked each one moreso than the last. I thought lightning was really fun, then I played vaan and I was like "wow he's AWESOME!" (he really is, all his attacks are different weapons so it's this crazy fighting style that's constantly changing). I'm playing as Laguna now, and I like him even more than Vaan. He's a ranged character, but since he isn't a mage it means he's got really fast, brutal attacks. My favorite is his sniper rifle, which you actually have to aim. If you're quick with it, it's brutal. : D
I also like how there's a real overworld now, and a nice touch is that whichever character you're playing as gets their overworld music in the overworld.
Anyway I'm loving this game, anybody else?

That came out in the US already?
Disregard that, downloading now. I wont start playing till I finish Valkyria Chronicles II though. I'll probably just play Laguna and Yuna. After getting Squall to Level 100....for the 3rd time....

I've finished the first game in Japanese, but not in English. As a result, I don't know much about the story. I heard that Duodecim contains the original game's story, but I was hoping someone could enlighten me so I could start it right away.

Yuna's playstyle is interesting. I didn't fall in love with her immediately like I did with the others, but she's quickly growing on me. Also, her overworld music is the saddest so far, it's "Suteki da ne" (if you don't recognize the name, it's 'that really sad song from ffx', if that doesn't ring a bell check this out, you'll recognize it if you played ffx): www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3IxVy_tuAIQ_Q Putting that as the overworld music means I get a little sad every time I'm walking around in the overworld. It's also making me explore as Yuna moreso than the other characters. XD Still haven't tried Tifa yet!

Ah! You guys have been having fun talking about duodecim without me! *copypasta from fb with a few edits*
I'm up to chapter 6. The story mode is A LOT better in this one. Major props for mixing things up with the sides. It helps that all the boring parts were streamlined. Also I get pretty emotional when I'm walking on the world map and they play such nostalgic music in the background. Instrumental Eyes on Me anyone? And like Paul said, suteki da ne brings a tear to my eye.
As for the characters, based on the ones I've used in story mode so far...
Lightning: The least fun to play as so far. I don't know why but I just can't enjoy using her. A lot of basic straightforward moves. Too troublesome to change styles in a heated battle. Medic is practically useless right now.
Vaan: Surprisingly fun to play as. Different weapons gives him a lot of flexibility. Dat crossbow is fun. Will probably get more cool weapons. His victory pose looks retarded though. Why can't he just do what he did in XII?
Laguna: Boy I love his charisma. Funniest character on the good guys side. Pretty fun to use with all his indirect attacks.
Yuna: I love Yuna. I qq'd a little in her story. She was my strongest character in FFX. Her ranged attacks aren't that great but her melee is surprisingly effective. Kinda wish they let her switch to her gunner class from X-2. Oh and at the end of her chapter, she should've done the healing since she's the WHITE MAGE! Let the bodyguards do their job.
Kain: Just started using him. Pretty strong.
Overall, the game is a big improvement over dissidia. They fixed everything that was wrong in the first game and added a bunch of new nifty features. But some of the new features are a source of frustration for me. Namely the assist.
My first problem with assists is that since it uses the left trigger, sometimes I turn off my auto lock when I mean to just do an assist attack. It doesn't happen that much to be a problem, but enough that I'm cautious about pressing it.
The other problem I have with assists is when the assist is used to take a hit for you. In theory it's a good idea, but the timing seems to be off. Sometimes the enemies combo finishes, so I wanna counterattack with an assist while my character gets his bearings. Sounds plausible right? After all the combo is over and the enemy has stopped attacking. But if I call the assist too soon after the attack ends, my assist character comes in just to get stunned and my assist bar gets locked. They weren't even hit. Now I've gotta wait till the bar is active again. Happened to me on a few occasions.
@zack: You can transfer over your levels from your Dissidia save.
Oh and I just used gabranth for the first time(stopped playing before I unlocked him in the first game). He is really fun to play as.
Hey! If we've got enough people, let's do a 5 vs 5 match! Party battles are pretty cool.
I'd say my single favorite character to play as is Cecil.

You make me think of Cecil from Melty Blood/Tsukihime, but I know she's not crazy like that lol.

@zack: You can transfer over your levels from your Dissidia save. Ah, now I'm really interested. I worked hard on my Squall build.

Now I've gotta wait till the bar is active again. Happened to me on a few occasions. Yeah, this has happened to me a lot too, haha. I've kind of disciplined myself into only using assist attacks to initiate combos now anyway, but every now and then against really tough opponents, it happens and I'm like ARGH!!! I totally agree about the story, it's much better this way. In the original Dissidia, it was awesome how you could pick whichever character you wanted and play through their story first... but it really made everything disjointed. It wasn't until you'd finished the individual story-lines that things got interesting, and by then it kind of felt like it was a little late. This is a much better way of doing it, for sure. : D I'm actually interested in the story of this world now, as opposed to the original dissidia, where I just liked seeing my favorite characters interact with each other. As far as the fighting styles of the new characters, I think my favorite's Laguna and my least favorite is Yuna. I really like all of them, though - I had a blast playing as Yuna, especially once she got Sonic wings. : D
