I think it's also a credit to the show that someone like me, who really doesn't have any preconcieved notions about what's supposed to happen in a magic girl anime, can still watch it and enjoy it simply because it's great. Indeed! And I think that's somewhat further evidence of the point I was trying to make-- even if you don't go into it with expectations, you can still sense how the genre is being subverted because those touchstones are so present. As for Zombie: a woman's breasts should not jiggle every time she giggles. In real life, I would run.

I'm telling you, her breasts ARE her head! The thing on top is just some tumor!

Pahaha. A very reasonable hypothesis. Of course, that would make her... what, a serial killer/magical girl/breast monster? Too many things at once.
(We've driven this thread rather far astray)

Actually, the point of the transformation was more the slightly different outfit, at least for episode 6(?) Either way, just wait for the seriousness of a few of the later episodes. The 11th (and preferably last) is quite possibly one of the best and most powerful episodes of any anime I've seen in a long time, aside from Madoka :3

Really sucks about Madoka though. I have a feeling they're doing what Nickelodeon did with Invader Zim in the U.S. (pulled/banned episodes because of 9/11). I guess Walpurgis Night is not on the politically correct side of a national disaster.

Oh wow, both episodes? : D Awesome!!! I'm kind of nervous now, we've been in this hiatus for so long that I'd forgotten how morbid the set-up for the finale had become.

Oh wow, both episodes? : D Awesome!!! I'm kind of nervous now, we've been in this hiatus for so long that I'd forgotten how morbid the set-up for the finale had become. Morbid? Well, I guess, but (don't read if you don't like analysis) considering the first show with a similar plot structure that comes to mind is Higurashi, it seems that the magical girls have the advantage. Homura has an undo button and Madoka has a wish. Homura claims she'll repeat everything as many times as needed to save Madoka, so either the show has a resolution that satisfies at least her, or it doesn't really have an ending (unless the writers come up with something even more fucked up, like killing Homura and leaving everything up to Madoka). But even so she still has a wish, one with no particular limitations. On top of that, the plotlines in episode 10 remind me of the arcs in Higurashi: none of them worked out. More importantly, Homura alone was unable to defeat Walpurgis night, Madoka and Homura together were also unable to win. There was just that one anomaly where Madoka won on her own. What seems to be the obvious solution is also mirrored in Higurashi: need moar teammates. And there is an unlimited supply of Sayaka's, Mami's and Kyoko's accessible through either reset or magical girl wish (I mean, the OP reveals Homura's story through the song, but visually suggests that all the girls should end up fighting together). Whether or not that whole montage is a troll is yet to be seen. (And those are the thoughts my brain decided to spew as I'm falling asleep at my keyboard) Then again, I didn't really take into account the writer, I've been told not to expect a pretty ending
