I notice that quite a few of you have experience cosplaying and so you can use this thread to share your cosplay experiences and feel free to post pictures of your cosplays.
I've only cosplayed once. I'm a complete amateur. Since I can't sew or anything, I just bought my costume. I cosplayed over the summer at Otakon 2009. I cosplayed as a shinsengumi, one of only 3 shinsengumi that I saw there. I don't have any pictures(not that I would share them even if I did. Seriously, you wouldn't wanna see it).
Ummm....I'll tell you a little about my experience. First of all, it was really uncomfortable. Not only was I not used to wearing the costume but the blazing summer heat made it worse. To tell you the truth, I'd much rather wear shorts and sneakers. But it was also a great experience. Having people ask to take my picture was fun. I guess it made me feel special. I got my picture taken a few times. Maybe about half a dozen times. It was definitely rewarding. I'm not sure if I'll cosplay again but I'll consider it.
And here's a little bit of cosplay trivia. In case you didn't know, Renee Gloger, one of the representatives for the US at the world cosplay summit in 2008 was actually a student here at NYU. Last year, she came over to the club and talked about the do's and don'ts of cosplaying while showing us some of her lesser known cosplays. I will see about having her come over again, but I can't make any promises since I'm sure she has a very busy life.
So please feel free to share. I'm sure you must have better experiences than myself and I'd love to see some of your awesome costumes.
