So I decided to finally check out the World Cup just now - pop on a game between Japan and "CMR" (what fucking country is that?), figuring that I can root for Japan, being a weeaboo and all.... and I hear bees. Fucking incessant bees. For a little bit, I thought my sound was messed up, or maybe it was just some bad coverage, so I switch over to espn and, lo-and-behold, they're right in the middle of talking about the buzzing.
Turns out it's horns being blown non-stop for 90 minutes, and FIFA says they won't ban it because it's an integral part of South African culture.
Seriously, wtf?!? How am I supposed to watch this when there's this constant noise? It's not relevant like a chant, or atmospheric like a roaring or booing crowd. It's just garbage. I honestly watched 5 minutes of this and had enough for 4 years (or however long it takes for them to do another world cup).
Really a bust, too - I was looking forward to enjoying the background noise of what I thought would be a mildly interesting game while I got some work done today. Instead I'm pissed off and can't wait for E3 coverage to start. : P
