ehhhhhhhhhh... Serah doesn't look THAT young. She's definitely of an ambiguous age, though.
In other words, Hope and Snow are really killing the buzz of this game for me. Jesus. Hope is a bitch, Snow is a dumbass... meanwhile, Lightning is badass, Fang and Vanille are feel-good (accents +), Sazh is... black and a little too self-absorbed,
Fuck Snow is annoying

Bah, too bad. I haven't played the game yet, but just the fact that people don't love all of the characters, and hearing people say "well yeah, you gotta get 8 hours in for the story to get good".... it's like FFXII all over again @_@.
Too bad. I was really hoping this was gonna be the FF game that brings the series back to its "YOU GON' CRY WHEN YOU PLAY DIS" roots.

I will not be playing as I do not own a PS3. I used to have an xbox 360 but it kept breaking and once the warranty ran out, well I was out an xbox. I can't believe I spent so much money to buy it new and it broke. Within a year it broke 3 times). From not reading disk, to ring of death. They should have made FF 13 for pc as well, as not everyone owns a PS3, or and Xbox 360. I have a PS 2, so I can only play those games. I am female btw. I do like FF XI, however my pc is not really made for games and with steam it was just not working. I kept getting error messages. I can play FF X and FF XII.

You could also play the PS1 final fantasys (1&2, 5-9, and Tactics) OR the PS2 version of FFXI. OR buy a PS3 =/ JRPGs don't do well on PC. That's why there's almost none of them in the West.

I just started playing last night, and totally love it so far. I actually don't find any of the characters annoying - this is miles ahead of FFXII as far as characterization. I may not love all of them, but I definitely don't hate any of them, and in FFXII (or any weak RPG) I basically felt apathetic towards the majority of the party. In this I'm really liking all of them, and their interactions seem a lot more genuine than FFXII's.
Sorry I keep pitting it against FFXII, but that game kind of scared me. While Square games like Crisis Core were still doing there thing and making great characters that you really cared about, FFXII just didn't affect me at all. So I'm really, really relieved that I'm only a few hours into FFXIII and I'm already starting to love this new cast.
Also, the graphics omfg jesus. It's actually a little tough to tell the difference between one of the standard FF "high rez" cutscenes, and just normal in game graphics. There are times when I'll just stop on a precipice or something and look out at the game world, and it's like, if I saw this on the back of the box I would assume they were showing me a cutscene, but no - those are actually the graphics. It's unreal. I didn't think we'd be playing games this good looking in this generation of the vidya.

I don't HATE any of the characters so far (won't be able to really start playing till after the weekend). Snow's corny, and Vanille's annoying, but they all seem to be real. None of that self-righteous crap that's in most JRPGs. Lightning's still my favorite tho. When I started the game, watching the intro cutscene reminded me of FFX, and how I was blown away by the graphics when it first came out. I know I can always count on square to blow my mind each and every generation with their FF games. Its linearity hasn't bothered me in the slightest.

Final Fantasy has been linear since 10, and anyone who says different is probably a little confused. I like this style, though, I don't mind. Also, for some reason, the game waits to really blossom until you're a ways in (no joke, I am suddenly okay with everything after a certain point in this game).
For the sake of not spoiling, you will get pissed at some bitchy characters, but after a bit they suddenly all become tolerable. Shit is a-ok.
Also, the monsters start underwhelming, but they get pretty crazy later on.
ALSO. USE SABOTEURS. ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER LEVELS. MAD OP.
I would also say that the reviews seem to be shallow representations of the earlier stages of the game, which is understandable, but the problems they have in the beginning really don't persist. :3

Final Fantasy has been linear since 10, and anyone who says different is probably a little confused. FINALLY SOMEONE FUCKING SEES IT! Everytime I say FFX was linear people go "lol, no. There was an airship and everything..." FFXII was much less linear, but that didn't help it any. The game could literally be a straight line, but as long as the plot is good and the characters are done well, the game is awesome.

haha yeah zack, FFX was pretty much linear for at least 3/4 of the gameplay, when you get the airship it's pretty late and there's usually no point (besides blitzball) to go back in do anything.
And 12 was cool that you had to grind around random areas, but there were clear directions you were going everywhere.
Open world Final Fantasy, the last one was 9, and that's even debatable, cause 9 was still pretty directional. Remember Final Fantasy 8? You got Balamb Garden to roam around in the SECOND DISC. then you got ragnarok, etc etc. Same with 7, you could just go wherever the world let you.
I kind of miss open world final fantasy, but like I said, I like this more linear style as well. They both have their merits and demerits.
