For those of you who were following Angel Beats. It was only now I realized that the ending themes changed every episode, taking into account when characters enter and leave the series or when takamatsu takes off his shirt in a grandiose manner. I thought it was worth noting.....

Haha nah I didn't realize that either.. shit but that's sure is some extra effort from the studio that I'm grateful for. I like it when the production companies go above and beyond the call of duty.
Also, I absolutely love Tenshi. No idea why.

I didn't notice it until the one episode where the pink-haired girl who loved singing/playing guitar disappeared. Then I was like "oh fuck no way"

Figured I'd post here rather than make a new thread - Just finished watching. I totally agree that this isn't something you should show in club, there aren't enough lol moments and you need to hear the music on all the serious parts to get the full effect of the show... but it's something you guys should definitely watch.
The ending didn't make me burst into treats, but I was close.

yeah sometimes your eyes were nearly leaking, especially for the pink-haired girl episode for me.
Of course, Main character-kun's episode was pretty solid too, but pink-haired girl was a tearjerker for sure.

Yeah, the saddest part, and the one that got me to legitimately shed a few (albeit manly) tears, was when he's got his sister on his back, and he's talking excitedly about everything they're going to do. "We're gonna go to this really great restaurant - it's so nice that you actually have to call ahead to make a reservation!" And then she just dies on his back, before he can share any of that with her. Mmf. When you say pink haired girl, do you mean the main character who's siblings got shot up? The paralyzed girl? Or the guitar-player? I think they all had pink hair hahaha. (gawd anime... never change) A lot of people are saying if this had been 26 episodes, they'd explained every character in the brigade's past, and let some of the relationships develop a little further, it would've been phenomenal. My initial reaction was to agree, but after thinking a little more about it, I'm glad they left so many people's lives ambiguous. Like, there's one scene near the end where that guy with the axe who was madly in love with Yuri looks at a picture of her, and smiles sadly to himself. He's accepting the fact that she'll never reciprocate his love, and all his memories of her and that entire existence will disappear as soon as he accepts it. It's a surprisingly somber moment for a character that was really just the butt of a few prop-gag jokes throughout the series, and I think it works much better than giving him an entire episode dedicated to why his life's sad. I wouldn't have minded a couple extra episodes all in all, but I think another season would've stretched it too much. It would've become fruits basket in the afterlife, with otanashi acting as tohru and dead spirits turning into reborn people instead of people turning into animals. Another interesting thing is how much the show avoided the subject of religion, especially faith. You'd think a show based in a purgatory of sorts would have at least some religious undertones, but they completely avoided that, and none of the characters actually professed to have believed or not believed in God, life after death, etc. The closest you got was Yuri's "I want to kill God" sentiment, which was really just disdain for the fucked up life she'd had. All in all, really glad I watched this. : D

Oh, no one noticed? Well if you usually skip the OP and ED, guess it's easily missed. I just love the ED theme so I watched it every time.

I still believe the show was madly rushed. Considering this went straight to anime, instead of being a visual novel first a 26 episode plan would've worked better in my opinion. Having all of the brigade would be a bit much but there are some characters that you're just curious about, or some that are barely mentioned. No, I don't need to know why T.K. is called T.K. or why he speaks janglish. But it would be cool to see why Oyama is there. He seems so plain...
I enjoyed listening to the end every episode, it's just that i only noticed by the 8th that it changed constantly.
Anyway, anyone remember when the OVA is coming out?

No clue. But I agree that there are tons of characters I wanted to know more about, for example 5th Dan Matsushita (I don't remember his name exactly?) and TK for sure. It was way too rushed.

Is there such a thing as an anime that goes for, say, 16 or 18 episodes? I feel like anywhere between 16-18 would've given people a lot more closure about the side characters without devolving into a formulaic every-single-character-gets-an-episode type of show. (when they made the paralyzed girl happy, it looked like that's what they were about to do, but I guess that was just to show the concept that you didn't necessarily have to have all your wishes in this life fulfilled to go on to the next life.)
One thing I liked was how they developed Otanashi's feelings for Kanade. There was never a shot of him blushing or sitting in his room like "I SHOULD ASK HER OUT BUT IM A SCARED!!!", nor were there any awkward dating or courting sequences. His feelings for her just stemmed from his compassion, and instead of being a vajayjay about it like 99% of dudes in animes are, he said how he felt without any hesitation or tension.
Don't get me wrong, a several-season long courtship can be pretty great if done properly, but every single anime seems to do it, and it can be really draining watching an episode where the main character's like "will I get to kiss her!" and you're like "of course not, dude, it's only the middle of the series."

Finally finished this myself. Gotta say this was completely not what I expected, and I'm glad it wasn't. Otonashi's story really got to me, I was on the edge of my seat, especially when he got the second part of his memories back.
I gotta agree with everybody that 13 episodes really weren't enough. The characters that I really wanted to know about were TK, Shina, and Fujimaki (the way he was resting his head oh his shirasaya really made me wonder about his regrets). Sigh, I'm really hoping for a coupla OVAs or something along those lines.

Instead of making a new thread, I thought I might as well post this here. I picked this article offa ANN.
Not that I didn't see this coming, but good news always rocks.
