Hey guys - the list of recommended anime has been awesome so far, and I'm slowly working my way through it. That said, I just watched Millenium actress again today (wanted to show it to my brother), and I was wondering if there was a similar list available for really good, must-see/should-see anime movies?
I know I probably shouldn't be asking since I still have so many full animes to watch, but the movies are so.... so.... so desu! (still dunno what that means, but it makes me sound more dramatic so I've been using it liberally)

Summer Wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Everything by Miyazaki (including Grave of the Fireflies) Appleseed + Vexille Kite + Mezzo Forte I'm starting to go into OVA realm. Ninja Scroll? I thought that was interesting.
Oh and desu mean 'is' which is pretty much a predicate to express present/future tense. (For example the ball is red vs. the ball was red)

Oof, so I really haven't been saying anything with desu, then.
Next time I get a chance I'll check out one of these - is summer wars the best one? BTW if it doesn't call my manhood into question by making my eyes well up with tears I'm gonna be sorely dissapointed.

It can be put anywhere, but usually at the end of a sentence desu. It's also the quickest way to be called a weeaboo on a non-anime forum.

Summer Wars definitely made me cry. I think we are watching it next week in club. I've actually broken down into tears during a few anime in my time...
Also desu (pronounced des or de-su) is famous because some characters from Rozen Maiden say it and they never stop. They say it after like every sentence so even a Westerner notices. I was tricked into watching this anime by a friend in high school. It's not SOO bad but.. mildly creepy. (But somehow not the creepiest doll anime I've seen).
Also Tekkonkinkret.

Errr....I wanna show summer wars for the next movie night(probably end of semester meeting w/ lots of food) so don't watch it yet if you can wait. But if you really wanna watch it ahead of time, I'm not gonna stop you. Choosing movies based on director is a fairly safe way to go about it. Satoshi Kon(Millenium actress, perfect blue, paprika) Makoto Shinkai(if you want to cry, then this is a good choice. We watched 5cm per second last semester) Mamoru Oshii(director of ghost in the shell, and blood the last vampire)

Shinkai, his shit is depressing. voices of a distant star and 5 cm/sec are the famous ones. Miyazaki was mentioned in the must see, the movies are all there Personally Paprika - motherfuckin mindfuck Jin-Roh - Baddassery and violence Akira - Duh First Pokemon Movie - you cannot deny how awesome the first movie was. Really.
The problem with naming anime movies is that too often anime movies are just recaps of shows or extensions of shows. The rest are usually either super independent and unknown, or just plain bad. I mean, I can't even remember all the movies I've seen, but not all of them are worth remembering.
I'll find and present a list of anime movies if you want, but really if you just google ghibli titles and cover the ones already mentioned, you've probably seen them all.

Man, I just watched 5cm/second. That was really upsetting, sheesh. I mean, super well done and all, but man that was heavy.

My favorite anime movie. First and only one that caused me to shed tears. Definitely his best work.

Yeah, I'm not ashamed to admit I cried too. A part of me wants to watch the whole thing over again while I'm in this unusually emotional state, cause I know it'd be intense.

Grave of the fireflies is the most depressing anime movie you've probably never seen, but there's not reason to go out of your way to watch it unless you're emotionally ready for extreme retardation. Damn it's depressing.

I have a few things to say about Summer Wars. Good movie, but I had much higher expectations. Here's my complaints, and don't read unless you've seen it. I'm sorry, I have to say that Mamoru Hosoda really just recycled his idea.
Its way too similar to the digimon movie he made. He just placed it in a different world, using the exact same plot. I mean, everyone in the world helping out through technology, then a magical power-up, and the villain gets destroyed. I mean, even the villains (both AI, I might add) resemble each other, the first form of the evil digimon had long ears, this time the final form had long ears. Both eat data. Both feature potential death by some form of nuclear devastation. There is the almost win, but the villain still lingers, and finally gets destroyed thing.
Good movie, but its serious copypasta. Its digimon the movie minus the digimon.

Good movie, but its serious copypasta. Its digimon the movie minus the digimon. The part that really got me was when.... All the people around the world was watching the fight and then all of their screens show up saying "use my power." And then boom, huge power boost to defeat the enemy. I was like, that is exactly what happened in the digimon movie.
