There has been some concerns raised over the your exploration theme and I would like to set up a meeting with you and a few others who helped create the theme to revisit the goals you have for this community. The specific concerns are around your approach in visiting “badass kungfu movies and tear jerking Korean dramas” and the stereotypes around this topic. Please let me know when you are available next week. Thank you, David Pe ---------------------My reply--------- Mr. Pe, I am sorry that you are concerned with our explorations idea. I deeply apologize if this has caused offense to anyone. East Asian media is distinctly different from media from the west in many subtle aspects that we enjoy discussing. When I referred to "badass kungfu movies from China and tearjerking Korean drama" I was referring to the some of the commonly known archetypes of the genres themselves rather than any individual or race. I am attempting to open a discussion about these general (or subtle) differences in approach to visual media rather than be stereotypical. I invite you to please visit the following pages to see what I am talking about: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TearJerkertvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MyKungFuIsStrongerThanYourstvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BadassBoastI would be happy to set up a meeting with you. I will ask the other people who are interested in the community when they are available for a meeting. --------------------- Busted not because of the word badass.. but the words, China and Korea. Discuss.

Well if you want to call a trope a stereotype it's just absurd. Also nothing wrong with a healthy addition... to TV tropes. PS - I probably won't bring up TV Tropes again, so I need help formulating an argument.

This is what happens when people take racial issues too far.....
Like I said on IRC, describe the purpose of the floor like this:
And also the part about lots of cake. Unless they're a pie person....
cake>pie
Yea, I'm dessert-ist.

... WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH -- hold the phone OAO I didn't even know we phrased anything like that, haha - I do see where he could get nitpicky about it, but at the same time... ;; Can'twejustkeepit? It's a new idea, far newer than another "music" floor to add to the multitudes that I figure NYU hosted. OAO And didn't this get past the uh board of people or something already? So when did this happen O___O Also -- oAo Will hit up the meeting if your need some assistance too

Mr. Pe,
Thank you for your time and your patience on this matter. If possible, I would like to set an appointment with you on Tuesday. I am free after 11 AM, and throughout the day except for 3:15 - 5 PM. I am looking forward to having a discussion about an appropriate description that can avoid possible offense. -------------- Hi Nora,
Thank you for your clarification. I apologize if my email came off strong. I appreciate your willingness to dialogue. I am at my office all day tomorrow. It is located at 4 Washington Square Village Room 1A. It is on Mercer/Bleecker across from coles. Let me know when it's most convenient when your around campus.
David ---------- If anyone wants to come, I'm going at 1 PM. If you -really- want to come and 1 is bad for you let me know.

I could come but unless you think you really need more support, I'd rather just drool over my copy of FFXIII for an extra hour.

Bad time, Micro ends at 12:15. Then there's a review session at 2-3 for the midterm on Wednesday.
I could come technically, but I can really only stay for about an hour.
Also, the more support, the better Zack.
Despite my promise to Nora for a well-versed argument, there really is not much to argue against. Is that line concerning korean dramas and kungfu movies the only problem? If so, then all we really have to do is insist that all we want is explore certain visual cultures, and Korean dramas and kungfu movies are distinctly different from western dramas and western fighting movies (you basically said this already though).
The best is I can offer is the Foreign Cinema floor does the same thing as us. They used the words "Latino" and "Asian". There is another floor that explores a specific culture, and thats French Maison. They use the word "French" quite often.

I have Lab from 12:30 to 3:30, so I guess that a no for me. : ( I honestly think that it's not fair that we got nitpicked on a silly thing like wording. Korean drama and kungfu films are just examples of some of the exemplary and internationally recognized media from those countries, but we all understand that its not the only facet. That's like saying that for the "French Maison" floor their description had said "Eat escargot and crepes". Everyone knows there's more to French cuisine than those two thing but they are the most famous items of French origin. At least, that what I think they are nitpicking at.
