Yes, it's yet another convention! Held at Stony Brook University, a mere hour and 40 minutes away by LIRR, is holding I-CON, a science-fiction, fantasy, and anime convention.
When? March 26-28, and you can but a one-day pass for Saturday.
Where? Stony Brook University. You can take the LIRR to Stony Brook through the Huntington line, making a transfer at the designated spot (MTA online can give the specific transfer spot) and it'll leave you right on campus. Stony Brook is also my hometown and I can assure you it's very safe. Obviously, practice safety if you stay into the night, but otherwise nothing to worry about.
Why go? CAUSE TIFFANY GRANT IS GOING!...oh wait...American voice actress...errr...BECAUSE I WILL BE! And there's a whole sports complex FILLED with vendors. Anyone go to the club fair? Think that amount of space but with a huge amount of vendors everywhere, selling everything from horror movie props, swords, cat ears, and cheap manga and anime collectables. There's also programs of LARPing (if you're into that), anime discussions and showings, chemistry magic shows (THAT was a really cool one), Renaissance dance classes, and a whole ton more!
I'll be going an a fairy (I WAS going to be Navi until someone stole my idea >_<.), but cosplay is entirely optional. I can meet you at the Sport Complex if you guys want, and we can go to events as a group, and hang out with the Stony Brook anime club (unless we're too cool for them)
Here's the site for the convention: www.iconsf.org/. Ideas? Suggestions?
