I've decided to celebrate the release of FFXIII by playing (nearly) EVERY Final Fantasy game since the original. I don't plan on playing nothing BUT final fantasy, so it should take me roughly a year. I'm also going to post my thoughts on each game as I finish them.
FFXIII comes out on March 9th. Gotta spam the games....
Chances are this will either pump me up for FFXIII, or make me want to kill everyone at Square in a fit of psychotic rage......yay!
Yes, I'm using these forums as a blog, deal with it.....
The games I'm planing on playing (in order):
[/li][li]Final Fantasy III
[/li][li]Final Fantasy IV
[/li][li]Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
[/li][li]Final Fantasy V[/s]
[/li][li]Final Fantasy VI (barely started)
[/li][li]Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
[/li][li]Final Fantasy VII
[/li][li]Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children (well, watch)
[/li][li]Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII ( )
[/li][li]Final Fantasy VIII (
[/li][li]Final Fantasy IX ( )
[/li][li]Final Fantasy X
[/li][li]Final Fantasy X-2 ( )
[/li][li]Final Fantasy XII (never finshed cause it's TOO FREAKING BORING/LONG)
[/li][li]Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
[/li][li]Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
[/li][/ul]
The games I'm not playing:
If I've missed a Final Fantasy game please let me know so I can decide too play it or not. I should start before the end of the year.
It's gonna be a LOOOONG year.....

Final Fantasy: D+
Wow. My first game in this marathon took me two days to beat. The gameplay was archaic, and the plot was nearly non-existent. The whole game felt like on long MMORPG quest.
Final Fantasy II: B-
I must say that FFII is a huge step up from the first. The plot was fairly good and the characters had more emotion than cardboard (which is more than I can say for FFI). The biggest problem I had was the "innovative" leveling mechanics. Basically you level your stats depending on how you fight. I assume they did this to have you avoid grinding. However, it just makes you grind 10 times as much. Decent game that tried (and failed at) something different.
Final Fantasy III: C+
FFIII was a nice upgrade (graphically) from the previous two. However it suffers a little of what the first did; lack of an interesting overall plot. It seemed to focus more on smaller conflicts (like a curse on a village) and sorta rushes the story at the end. That said, the game didn't drag on for too long and the leveling system is more traditional than the the bullcrap from FFII.
Final Fantasy IV: B
This Final Fantasy felt more like a 'Tales of' game with the dual worlds and the "I'm on your side, but not really cause I'm with the bad guys till I'm not later, blah blah blah". I think that this Final Fantasy had a much stronger story than the previous installments, but with four games in, the same turn based gameplay is beginning to get repetitive. The After Years: The sequel for the Wii is a nice little addition to the plot and expands it a little further. But the 2D graphics were a little odd after playing the DS version of FFIV
Final Fantasy V: B-
Continuing the trend of good plots and interesting character relationships, FFV is starting to shift the series to the Final Fantasy I now know. Though I must say, Bartz is an idiot. Gameplay is still a little bland, but FFV features a more refined class system to improve micromanaging characters.
