Alright, this is last minute, but japan international club offered to do a joint meeting with us. They're holding a concert by uzuhi, a relatively unknown japanese rock band in the city. It's on October 30th(friday) from 7pm to 10pm. If we participate, we(the club) have to donate $150 to the event. Keep in mind that our budget can barely cover the $50 we spend for food each week. They say after the concert which will be around 45 minutes, there'll be a little after party where we play games or something. Apparently ACU, Brazilian society, and CMS may also be cosponsoring so don't expect only otaku to be there(which makes me think watching anime won't be very productive, and if they play games, expect rock band or something). Ummm.....attendance is free so even if we don't do the joint meeting, you can still go. Oh and there's apparently going to be free sushi. I need to get an answer soon since there's a deadline. So vote away. Oh and can I give my own input? Personally, if we're gonna do a joint meeting, I'd rather do it with the play club than ji. No offense to ji, but I think we'd get along better w/ play since we share some members and I'm still not sure what ji does anyway. I was looking at the other clubs. Why does everyone have a facebook!? I hereby declare that nyu's club anime will never have a facebook page as long as I'm president. F#$k facebook, myspace, or any other social interaction websites. For future reference, does anyone know about these other clubs and can tell me what they do at their meetings? Just curious, I don't get out of the anime club much. I'd like to know about play and kendo club too since we might do joint meetings with them in the future. Actually tell me about the atheist club while you're at it. I'm really curious about what they do.

Not to be mean but there's a reason why unknown bands are unknown bands. And if I'm going to spend some time I'd rather do it at some sort of poetry slam about pregnant women than with a band who I can't exactly picture/can gage whether I like their music or not. :U
aspdokaposdd We're doing a joint thing with the kendo club? *EXCITEMENT* LOL, just as a random observation, I've noticed some of the guys over on the team like anime, but how many of us are on the kendo team? >8U Well, on the team who isn't a mere beginner like Aaron and myself
If it wasn't obvious, kendo club meets and we do drills. It's -- from the best of my knowledge -- just like any sport team practice [With intense ki building] and I'm not sure if the team itself gets together to do "extra" things or if the other members will host informal gatherings of some kind. ;U
And yeah, I think PLAY is something closer to our interests than JI. xDx Cause if it's anything like IFA ... then... LOL.

Yeah, we know some of the people from kendo club. Not sure why there's such a large correlation between anime and kendo club. Maybe everyone there got into kendo because they watched bamboo blade.
Anyway, not sure if we'd do a joint meeting with them now. It's kind of difficult finding equal ground between the clubs. We can show some bamboo blade or some other kendo anime, but I wouldn't suggest letting a roomful of untrained otaku hold shinai and start beating each other with it.

They could do an intro lesson and train us.
I'd go if its like that.

LOL, I don't think Sensei would let a room full of fans suddenly get their hands on a bunch of shinai... But I think that maybe a demonstration could be worked out ;U

A demonstration would be cool. But we'd be more observers than it being a joint program. I can't seem to think of anyway anime club can contribute.

Luis, I think I'll turn down JI. There's not much interest, and not sponsoring won't prevent anyone from going. Also, our budget sucks. How do other clubs deal with their budgets? Do they get more money or just don't have as many meetings?

Play is definitely a good venture to unite with. I was at an event earlier and from my observations they were running Smash Bros. of all incarnations, various Street Fighter incarnations, Rock Band, Mario Kart Wii, an assortment of N64 games, Soul Calibur IV, and the usual array of board games. Personally, I was able to get a couple 358/2 multiplayer rounds in, a Pokemon battle, and a Touhou demonstration (surprise, surprise) in.
So it seems fighting games are a high note. Toss Guilty Gear, Blaze Blue, KOF, Tatsunoko versus Capcom, and a few others in and it'd be complete. The logical step would be a fighting tournament (or even a Pokemon tournament, since that's multiplayer friendly too) with anime DVDs as a grand prize or something. A good situation since the wealth gets spread all around. The games club gets a tourney, the anime club (which has some intersection already) becomes even more relevant with a luscious prize, and the industry gets fueled from our DVD purchases.
As for the kendo club, an exhibition match would probably be a neat idea. "Fight of the century! One night only!" Only thing is, as much overlap there may be between some kendo club members with the anime club, I wouldn't count everyone in the kendo club to be on board with this sort of idea. Not everyone there is as enthusiastic about this sort of thing.

No problem. As long as you contacted J.I. about the decision, they should understand. Other clubs deal with their budget either by having less meeting, spending less money on food, or, like what I do with the NYU Martial Arts Club, simply requests more money at the end of the semester and year. To do this, though, you need to spend all your money plus go a LITTLE bit past your budget to show that the club needs more money to cover for that extra expense next year. It ALWAYS works. Finally, Zack mentioned to me when we spoke with our advisor that we still can request for more money. Talk to Zack and see if he can get that done before next semester. That way, we have extra money and cn ask for more for the following year.

Aaron brings a good point. I see no problem if we can tag team with the Play Club and have a tournament/fighting day. That reminds me, every year, they always hold an event called the PlayBox or so. It's always towards the end of the semester. If we can co-sponsor with them and add a few fighting games in (so that it would not just be an event full of RockBand, Guitar Hero, and other party but lame games), especially those that haven't been released in this side of the world, then it should be beneficial to us and we could earn a better reputation. Overall, think about when to have an event with the play club. We can have DDR matts there in case there are some people from the DDR club remaining.

PlayBox for this semester is over. I think it was last Saturday. I would have gone but I had homework and none of the games interested me.

Alrighty then. I guess next semester, around February or March, we can try to do the PlayBox with the Play club.

PLAYBox is traditionally a marathon of Smash tournaments. Not saying that can't be changed.
