I've done cosplays before, making my own costumes: I was Tifa from FFVII for my first try (earlier Tifa version, not the new black get up), then Meryl from Trigun (probably my most difficult as I fashioned the deringers myself), and then finally a female Pyramid Head from the Silent Hill series. I think I want to try an original cosplay of my own design, one day, like steampunk or cybernetic, because I'm good at making props for my costumes and would like to push the limits. Also, the reason I don't have any pics up is because I didn't have a digital camera and the pics I did have my mom sorta burned. >_> Yeah, she went through a phase where she thought anime was evil and corrupting her child.

My parents went through that phase, plus so much more. They included manga, video games, cartoons, tv in general, and even my friends (cuz my friends liked the same stuff as I did, therefore they're evil). They actually still in that phase. In terms of crazy asian parents, I'm pretty sure no one can beat mine.

Ahh, too bad. My mom actually wants to get into anime - she'll see my brother and I watching something and she'll sit down for a few minutes to check it out.
I told her that when she has time she should watch Fruits Basket, that should be a pretty good anime for a mom.
As far as cosplay, I was Kisame from Akatsuki, and that's the only cosplaying I ever did. It was really easy, I just wrapped a plastic sword in toilet paper and bought the robe/headband (I had the hidden leaf headband but it didn't matter cause from my hair/the sword you could totally tell who I was.)
If I find those pics I'll post them up, haha.

Fruits Basket? No way, let her watch something that's actually targetted towards moms, like Skip Beat or Honey and Clover~

I do admit they'd be pretty good too. But fruits basket's fine. I will second the vote on honey and clover after she's done with fruits basket.

Just sayin'. I obsess with subtle genre differences and their target audiences. If she wasn't a mom I wouldn't recommend it to her.

Ooh, do you think Fruits Basket would be too silly? Too upsetting? I'll check out those other anime's you mentioned and see if they'd be good for her. She likes shows that are a little nutty - Arrested Development, 30 rock, even Scrubs. So I figured FB was a solid first anime for her, since it's got a nice combination of humor, romance, and tear-jerking moments.... but I'll check out honey and clover. If it's got less people-turning-into-animals then it'll probably work better. God, it would be really weird if one Halloween my mom decides to cosplay too.

I just think it's subpar for your target audience compared to critically acclaimed Josei manga. Cosplay moms tis awesome!

Unimpressed, mainly because she insists on posing Celty in a sexually suggestive manner.

I'm surprised they didn't do any with the helmet - you'd figure that'd be easier than the smoke effects.
Still, wicked awesome. Was that the actual face of the cosplayer? Cause it looks a lot like celty's actual face in one of the pics, which is just nuts.

I got my mom to get over it with the thanks of the $$60 Billion Bounty, Vash the Stampede. Granted, she was always confused when Kuroneko appeared on the screen, but it didn't keep her from enjoying the show and actually getting teary-eyed at Legato's last act.
I was wondering about the helmet, too. But hey, I'm not one with Photo-Shop skills, so I won't argue. She does have a striking resemblance to Celty's head, though. d(^_^)b

Unimpressed, mainly because she insists on posing Celty in a sexually suggestive manner. Agreed. Its very OOC. But it is an impressive suit. I would have given it extra point for a helmet tho.
