Hi guys!
So I'm currently in the midst of an application process to create an explorations floor for next year in U-Hall, focusing on being entertained by Japanese Media... anime, as well as drama and movies. (Of course sneaking other Asian media in as well!)
Those who came over during karaoke night got sort of a taste of the funness that is possible, there's lots of places in U-Hall that we could enjoy, as well as a lovely proximity to St. Marks, and Union Square subway. Also you could room with your favorite friends from anime club!
We also would have a budget for various possible events and it will be like having a home version of anime club!
In order for me to continue this process, I need at least fifteen people to help me out and vouch that they would be interested in such a thing.
Is anyone interested???
If you are, please PM me your first and last name, as well as your NYU ID and your netID. Also comment with ideas and stuff!

Amazing. Idea. Definitely on board for this! (it'll be so cool!)
So, we'd use the budget to do things like Karaoke night? Would we need an RA on the floor if some of us are sophomores? *no idea how this works*

I'm signing up to be the RA as well. And if the budget allowed it, we could totally do things like karaoke night!!

What's an explorations floor? And can I vouch interest even if I don't dorm?

Explorations floor is a floor where people would dorm together, and then we get a budget to have the option of participating in various activities together, like meals, movie/anime/drama watching, going to events, making our own events, etc etc.
I was in an explorations floor last year, and I only did like 2 things with my floor lol. So it's not mandatory, it's completely optional (but I plan to make it so fun you'll -want- to do events!)
Signing the petition doesn't make it mandatory to be on the floor since you would still have to fill out housing forms (to get a dorm) after signing the petition... so I'm not sure, but it can't hurt! XD

Awesome guys! Just PM me with your first and last names, NYU ID and net ID. And like I told Jack in PM, there will be more than enough money to do probably any event we can come up with (frugally spending funds of course) so doing one event definitely shouldn't exclude the ability to do another members idea for an event.

Getting into an explorations floor is simple, especially since you guys are signing the petition, you guys pretty much have top priority. When I turn the form in (after December 6) you guys will get a confirmation email that will probably contain additional instructions for what you need to do.
Starting the floor is another matter, they have to approve the floor to be made. Hopefully I get enough names!

T_T Why wasn't this done LAST year!? I would completely support this action but my personal issue is that I'm a senior. This means that as far as next year, I won't be able to enjoy it completely. T_T Just when the club was becoming great, my college status comes back to bite me. T_T.

Thank God for the sign-in system!

Paragraph description for floor:
Genshiken, or "The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture" is titled in homage to an anime that helped transform the international perception of modern Japanese visual culture. This exploration floor is perfect for those who have an interest in general Japanese visual media; we will enjoy activities pertaining to the interests of anime, manga, the visual novel, live- action and video games. We will examine other instances of influential visual culture from Asia such as the badass kung-fu movies from China or the tear-jerking Korean drama.

I'll make an announcement at the next meeting to help spread the word too. Like Luis said, this was just waiting to be done by somebody. Great idea!
